My Favorite Disney Resort: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

My name is Kerri and I am an agent with Mickey’s Dream Vacations. My husband and I visited Walt Disney World this September and spent 8 days/7 nights in a savanna View Studio in Jambo House section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. It was AMAZING.
I fell in love with this resort the moment I stepped foot into the lobby. The African theme is authentic and magical. The rooms are spacious and well themed with touches of Disney thrown in for fun. The cast members at this resort are amazing. I had so much fun talking with them that we changed our dinner plans one night in order to spend more time interacting with the cast members. The stories and knowledge that they shared made this trip so special and memorable. We met cast members from all over the African continent and each one was more than happy to talk about their home. Something that I thought was really cool is that the cast members had little cards with a map of the area they came from with their name and a little tidbit about their home.
My absolute favorite aspect of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is the animals. Yup, you read that correctly, the animals, there are over 30 species of wildlife that roam free through 4 savannas! The Sunset Savanna, the Arusha Savanna and the Uzima Savanna are open 24 hours a day. Each has it’s own unique look and feel, and is home to different exotic animals. Imagine waking up and enjoying a cup of coffee while watching the sun rise with a giraffe right outside your balcony! The resort provides an information sheet in each room with a check list of each animal on the savannahs and a check list so you can keep track of which ones you saw. Some of the animals you may see are Ankole Cattle, Bontebok, Eland, Zebra, Greater Kudu, Impala, Okapi, Red River Hog, Nyala, Reticulated Giraffe, Roan Antelope, Sable Antelope, Thompson’s Gazelle, Waterbuck, White-Bearded Wildebeest, Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Blue Crane, East African Crowned Crane, Greater Flamingo, Marabou Stork, Ostrich, Pink-Backed Pelican, Spur Winged Geese, Guinea Fowl and Ruppel’s Griffon Vulture! They even have a special button on the phone that you can call if you have any questions about any of the animals. We loved our Savannah view, but if you’re on a budget, don’t worry, there were so many viewing points throughout the resort that a standard view room would still be magical.
The animals aren’t the only attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. You can also relax in the Uzima pool, an 11,000-square-foot zero-depth entry pool that offers a 67-foot-long slide right by one of the savannas. There are also scheduled events throughout the day for the whole family to enjoy. You can even participate in making treats for the giraffes and African crown cranes!
Speaking of treats, the dining options at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge cannot be beat. If you’ve read my personal blog before, you know that I fell in love with the zebra domes from Mara (a counter service eatery featuring African and American selections) and will go back to the resort just to eat them on my next trip to Disney. Zebra domes are magical little desserts that I honestly believe everyone on Earth needs to try at least once in their lifetime. The resort also features two award winning table service restaurants where you can sample authentic African cuisine : Jiko and Boma.
Bus transportation is available to and from all of the Disney theme parks and the Downtown Disney shopping and recreation area.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is a destination resort, close to the theme parks, but also just right for those trips where you want to spend more time at the resort, than at the parks. But don’t take my word for it, book your next Disney vacation at this amazing resort and see for yourself!
